Inspiration for a Balanced Life

B – Being – if you don’t know who you are, no-one else will. Start tapping into who you are, feel into what you love, and create your own identity. Never settle for less than that and go out and create the life that you deserve.

A – Aligning Yourself with Yourself – what are your values? Aligning with your values will create healthy HABITS which will stick when you have an emotional attachment to it. Again, when you tap into your values, life becomes fun and easy and filled with joy and happiness.

L – Live Life Fully – Every moment of every day, live your life in service to others. The moment you wake up, smile, be grateful and look to make a difference in the lives of everyone around you. Wake up and state 3 things you are grateful for. Most people do that before they go to bed, but starting your day with this also creates magic for yet another powerful day.

A – Attitude – Our attitudes have been shaped by our past conditioning. 50% of our personalities are shaped by the age of 5, 80% by the age of 8. Surround yourself with others who inspire you, learn from others who love to share (like me) and further develop a positive attitude that is in alignment with who you are.

N – Now (Live in the Present) – Living in the present can be a challenge at times. Allow yourself to live in the “NOW” at all times and start enjoying life – right NOW!

C – Choice – Happiness is a choice! We have the choice every moment of our lives to be happy, sad, joyful, angry, fearful, etc. – Being happy and Living an inspired life is really just a decision, and sure beats the heck out of Plan B.

E – Embrace – when you know who you are and you’ve aligned yourself with yourself, you begin to live life fully – your values and attitudes become more positive, you begin living in the present, and of course you make better choices (for example, the choice to be happy).

You will feel amazing at this point, so now it’s time to Embrace Life!

Live, Love, Do just a little bit More!

Live, Love, Do just a little bit More!

Sometimes you have moments in life that reminds you of Who you are, your Greatness and Your Power of Best. We all have great memories, and quite often forget what they are, Here’s an amazing experience that reminds us of the impact we will have on others when we just pay attention to what the world needs – just a little more love!

The other day as I was surfing Facebook, I ended up with the most powerful conversation with one of my favorite students from over 20 years ago in Thompson, Manitoba. We were chatting about life, and a question that popped up was, “What was your favorite memory in Grade 4. Without hesitation, she said, “It was when you decided that we were going to be Pen Pals with your mom”.  I needed to know more, so we used my air miles and took a trip down memory lane. It wasn’t long before we shared a tear which made me reflect upon why I made that move at that time. We shared a laugh, and this experience was one of the coolest and Happiest Memories ever!

My Mom had a major accident back then and was not in good spirits. My students were sad because one of our students was very sick in the hospital. At that time, we were doing something else, but I looked around the room and felt like switching it up, doing something pretty creative for my awesome Mom and my Students at the same time!

I said, “Kids, Ok, I want you write a letter and ask my Mom anything you want about me – and be nice!” Seeing the smiles and curiosity on their faces was enough to know this was going to be huge. Little did I know that it would be a memory that stood out in at least one of my kids hearts! They were pumped and wrote everything from “Hi to what was Mr. Wong like as a kid – was he bad?” Wow that was a fun 2 days, because after they were all done with pictures, letters, small gifts, etc, we put them in an envelope, mailed them to my mom and within three days, she called me in tears with the 32 awesome letters. She read every one of them and responded with a personal letter to each kid. I can remember that day handing out the letters they didn’t expect to receive, and watching my kids smiling, laughing and sharing the stories all day long. Of course, I wasn’t too thrilled that she shared my frequent detention visits and some other stuff including my marks, but hey I forgave her cause she’s my Mom lol. I also remember the kids wanting to develop a very cool wall mural with all the letters. Well let me tell you, that was the beginning of something very special as each one them formed a relationship with my mom, and they were pen pals even long after they moved to the next grade.

What I get from this experience is Pure Magic – what you may think as just a cool thing to do may mean the world to someone else. In addition to enjoying life, I encourage everyone to get out there, make a difference, and pay massive attention to what is happening around you, and simply..

Live a little more, Love a little more and Do just a little bit more!

Great Memories will last a Lifetime!

This has been a great summer, filled with fun, adventure and most importantly, great quality time spent with friends and family! The truth is that Life is Short and it’s important to follow your heart, do what you want and find ways to “Live your Dreams.” I don’t know what that is for you, but for me, it’s to spread joy and happiness and make memories with those that mean the most. Life can be one great adventure. Why not make yours one where you can look back and say, “I made that happen and had the time of my life!”

Recently, I had the pleasure and opportunity to take my amazing mom on a trip of a lifetime to Denmark, Norway and Sweden. We talked about our amazing trip to St. Lucia that we had 11 years ago and still remember that as one of the greatest memories ever. This past Christmas, we decided to do it again – here’s a brief on our trip!

favvikingThis trip this summer was awesome. and we even found a way to have fun with the teeny rooms, the two single beds stuck together and the huge price tag on food. It was pretty awesome that ice water was only 3 bucks LOL. We managed and even though uncomfortable at first, we just followed suit with everyone and gently snuck some buffet breakfast items into Mom’s purse. Since I have always listen to my mom, I knew I had to listen to her once again.

We spent time in Denmark (pic. to the left), cruised through the awesome Fjords of Norway, and practiced the very cool Swedish language in Sweden. Did you know that “Good Morgon” is Good Morning in Swedish, but when they say it, it sounds like “Good Moron” – we had fun with that one! There’s something cool about having a cool Mom, and man was she ever cool on this trip. I don’t think there was a picture she didn’t agree to be in, which was awesome, except for the one in the snow – she was kinda pissed!

I am always excited to share some great pictures of this trip that you can check out by clicking here on my Flickr Page. If you feel inspired to visit this magical land of fun and adventure, I can certainly be your travel guide for this one – Trust me, some of the tips I will give you will be of super value.

Tip #1 – bring lots and lots of money!

Tip #2 – go there with an open mind and be open to the fun and spontaneity that this adventure will bring.

For me as I said above, the most important thing in life is spending time with family and friends, Having Fun, Making Memories and Living Life to the Fullest! This picture to the right is us leaving back to Canada. As you can see, my mom had a great time, which was and is one of my ultimate goals in life!

To change the world, you must change someone else’s world, and if you can make a difference in one person’s life, you’re well on your way to changing your own. So take the opportunity to create an experience like this one and remember to Have Fun, Make Memories and Live Life to the Fullest!

Watoto – Inspiration, Love and Joy!

There are plenty of people and organizations doing great things to inspire, make a difference and change the world. My intention is to make you aware of as many of them as possible.

This past week has been one of the most incredible weeks of my life. I have never been a groupie before, although I would have if Elvis Presley was still around, but I sure am now and cannot help but be affected by the children, their stories, their smiles and their purpose. If you want to learn more about the the Watoto mission and see what they are all about, visit their site here.

The Watoto African Children’s Choir spends 6 months of every year inspiring people through story and song. Watoto is committed to placing orphaned and abandoned children in a safe and family environment rather than in large institutional orphanages. They become part of a family unit in the Watoto community and each child remains part of their new family for life. Watoto is a holistic care program that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable children and women in Africa.

Watoto is positioned to Rescue individuals, and Raise each one as a leader in their chosen sphere of life, so that they in turn will Rebuild their nation. Rescue, Raise, Rebuild; That’s Watoto in a nutshell and an organization that has touched my heart in many ways. If we all can become aware of and support people and organizations like this, then the world will no doubt become a better place!

Hey Check out this awesome clip – it was such an honor and pleasure to be around these amazing kids to hear their stories and appreciate the kindness they are giving to the world! Watoto cares and if you haven’t seen them, make that a priority. They are awesome!

Awesome “We Day” Vancouver..

We Day Inspires in Vancouver and around the World!

I had the privilege of being a volunteer for one of the most amazing Change the World organizations once again recently in Vancouver, BC. I have been fortunate to be part of this for the 4th year in a row and I’m always excited to be amongst the children and to know more about what they are going to do as an agent of change in this world. We Day not only makes a difference in the lives of many children, but impacts all those who volunteer. I can attest to that and how many people are inspired to continue making a difference.

In Vancouver recently, there were 20 thousand high school students in attendance in addition to a couple hundred thousand who have and will be participating in 13 cities in 3 countries. The students do not pay to attend although I’m sure they would. They earn their tickets through volunteering and this is a day where they are deservedly recognized for their amazing efforts. The bottomline is this is an organization that has and will continue to inspire millions to make a difference and I’m thrilled to be a small part of that. People always say, “But you’re just one person” – I think we need to ask Marc and Craig Kielburger if one person can make a movement like this happen! Click on the links below my pictures to learn more about We Day, Me to We, and Free the Children.

The impact since 2007: Over 2.5 million young people from around the world take part in life changing programs and campaigns to make a difference, $45 million raised for more than 1,000 local and global causes, 14.6 million hours volunteered for local and global causes, 5.6 million lbs of food collected for local food banks, and 8.9 million hours of silence logged for those who are denied their rights.

Great “PosAbilities” – Anything is Possible

Anything is Possible at PosAbilities

Recently I had the opportunity to experience an organization I had never heard of before. On the invitation of a friend, I met an incredible woman named Monique who shared the vision and invited me out to a Gala opening event to meet some of the artists and organizers of this company. This event was called the “Inclusion Art Show” and was in a word, “Amazing.”

The food was awesome, the music was great, but most importantly, the people were shining with light and talent. The artwork blew me away and it was very inspiring speaking with and sharing a laugh with alot of the artists.

This excerpt from their website

Creating an inclusive community

We are committed to building and participating in a community where all persons are welcomed and where all members are valued for who they are and for the contributions they make. This is the vision of an inclusive community — a place characterized by diversity, hospitality, belonging and respect. Persons with developmental disabilities have historically been excluded from our society and segregated into institutions. This has weakened our communities because it has deprived us of the richness of their perspectives and abilities. It has also deprived us of the beauty of their friendship. Inclusion creates a better, stronger and safer community.

We are also committed to persons with disabilities having and exercising the same rights to self-determination as other citizens. To be self-determining means that one has control over one’s life and future—and this includes the right to make decisions about where one lives and how one lives. This is essential to self-esteem, meaning and hope. This is essential to quality of life.

Our services are guided by a set of core values that describe how we work with persons-served, families, community partners and each other. They are a part of all that we do, and a reminder of the “heart” that is in our work. A strong set of values ensures that our organization can continue to evolve with the changing needs of our persons-served.

——-

Special shout out to Inclusion BC, a great provincial non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the participation of people with developmental disabilities in all aspects of community life. It was a pleasure meeting the leaders of this organization as well.

Bottomline, an amazing organization and an amazing group of people leading the charge. Visit their website here, learn more about the “Pos Abilities” and join me in supporting the cause!

Conversations can Make a Difference

This was written by a great lady and change maker, Gail Vilcu. We had the chance to see each other for the first time in a long time, and the first thing we did was the same thing we love to do. May this short excerpt inspire you to have “Sidewalk Conversations that Make a Huge Difference”

——–

I arrived in Vancouver today, and took the train from the airport to the downtown Waterfront Station. Upon leaving the station to meet my friend Robin Wong to continue our ongoing “CHANGE THE WORLD” conversations, I was blessed to have a few moments before Robin arrived. I stepped outside to enjoy the view and was drawn to this young, homeless, saddened man sitting on his blanket, with nothing more than a sleeping bag, a backpack, a piece of cardboard and a pen that barely wrote.

While I was enjoying the view, I looked over and before I knew it, I was engaged in a deep conversation with Ritchie from New Brunswick. The conversation was inspiring to say the least. Robin arrived at this point, and to his excitement, there I was sitting on the blanket with Ritchie. He came to join us. Within seconds, we experienced hundreds of people (literally) passing by, some who stared, others curious. During this moment of listening, I began to see the little boy within this man emerge. A human being who wanted to feel a connection, to be heard, to be respected, to be appreciated, if only for a moment.

Upon leaving Ritchie, I gifted him a book that I cherish, “The Fifth Agreement”… a simple book, that brought a young man close to tears (and to be honest, a tear for both of us as well) as he thanked Robin and I and asked if it would be ok to give us a hug for taking the time to get to know him. Something that is rare in his daily experience, yet something Robin and I are always on the look-out for in our every day experience.

The simple things we take for granted can change a persons life when we take the time to give from the heart.

Can we all Make a Difference and Change the World? I think so!

LOVE these moments and LIVE LIFE NOW.

Make Memories, Have Fun, Live Life to the Fullest!

This was one of the Coolest experiences ever.

Hyak River Rafting Adventures proved to be one of the most outstanding events of the year, not just for the rafting, the constant massive waves to the face, and the awesome scenery including the incredible waterfall experience which we were in awe about, but also because of the new relationships and the laughter and screams of all my new friends made throughout the trip! I highly encourage this kind of adventure and if you happen to be in BC, you MUST look up Hyak and give this experience a try!

So many memories come to mind when I experience great people and great adventures. Life is so valuable, and life can be so short, so it’s so important to Love, to Live, to Give as much as you can to others. When I think about my experience this past week on the Hyak River with so many friends, I can’t help but think about how beautiful life can be and how valuable and meaningful it is to make great memories whenever you can. As my friend always says, “Robin, you’re always the first to say yes whenever an experience to be had pops up” – yup that’s me, keep that in mind anytime, anywhere..

Speaking of Hyak River Rafting, it was intense, it was exciting, it was beautiful, it was professional, it was fun! Visit: hyak.com to learn more about why so many of us highly recommend this experience. No matter where you live, if you have access to White Water Rafting, give it a shot!

I always talk about getting out there and creating your own adventures, having fun and Living Life to the fullest. For me, this has been one of the greatest 2 months of my life with a much needed adventure trip to Scandinavia with my mom, a couple weeks with family in Nova Scotia, a Golf trip with friends in the Okanagan, and of course “The Great Hyak Rafting experience.”

My passion is to make a difference and change the world and my desire is simply to make other people smile. I realize that to do that, you have to make a difference in your own life first. A big part of that is creating balance and having fun. Another key ingredient to changing your own world is to align with others who have the desire to do the same.

Thank you Hyak River Rafting for giving us yet another great adventure of a lifetime!

And thanks to Jared, Josh, Randy and the rest of the crew for keeping us alive!

Get out there, Have fun, Make Memories and Live life to the Fullest!

The Joy of Missing Out!

Is it possible to exist without a tablet, computer or smartphone for a day, a week, perhaps a month? I’d like to, but what if I miss a Tweet, a Like, a Comment or even better, a new Follower; holy cow, a new Follower! Although tough for some, I would say, Yes it’s Possible!

When people disconnect, they truly start to connect..

When I wrote Living the Dream in our best selling book called, “Conversations that make a Difference”, yup you guessed it; it was all about “Conversations that make a Difference.” That’s why I was excited to come out and support my new friend Christina Crook who created something so awesome, who always expresses that real conversations will make a difference.

That night a short while back, it was a pleasure to be around so many amazing people who did not have a cell phone on them. Well, they did actually. We were just told to put them away in this crazy awesome BOX! Wow is all I can say about the experience that night; Real conversations, Real connections and a really good time! P1070126I’m not gonna lie; I did miss my cell phone for a few seconds and even heard it beep one time, but I was a trooper and kept it in the #JOMO Box (short for Joy of Missing Out) Wow, what has the world come to that we now rely so much on our technology!

Just the other day, my Mom and I were chatting on the phone about what life was like when I was growing up as a kid in Halifax, Nova Scotia without a cell phone and without Social Media. I can’t even believe that happened, but some of the memories I had were of always being around awesome people, playing tennis and golf without checking messages and needing to post pictures, meeting at each others houses, chasing girls and actually having conversations. Now I know we can have conversations over twitter, facebook, instagram, etc., and we don’t have to bother actually hanging out, but wow what a different world we live in because of that. I do recall one experience where a cell phone could have come in handy though – I remember being chased down the street by some guys who were being mean, throwing rocks, etc. I guess it would have been cool for me to pull out my Samsung or whatever at the time and send out a tweet or a facebook message saying, “HELP!”

Friends, I want to publicly congratulate Christina Crook for her revolutionary idea and her “Let’s Get back to Living” Philosophy of just hanging out and having great conversations. The night she revealed her new book was great and the energy in the room was electric, not from our cell phones, but from the real conversations happening in the room that night. The coolest part for me was just before I put my cell phone in the #JOMO box and asking Christina if I could just send one more facebook message first LOL. Of course she said, “Nope.”

Social Media can be overwhelming and can waste alot of time and keep you disconnected if you don’t pay attention to this, and my recent experience with this BOX and the great conversations in the room that night taught me alot. At first, I thought it was kinda weird, but after understanding what the box was for, I realized that this idea was revolutionary and that we don’t actually need phones or facebook or twitter, etc., to have real relationships with people.

Try it out; do what Christina did and go without for a month! It may be an enlightening experience for you. I’m slowly trying that and so far have been without for 2 hours – not a bad start!

If you would like to have a Conversation the Makes a Difference, make sure you say hello to Christina by Clicking here
to connect. Simply a spectacular person with a spectacular idea!
